Macclesfield’s Clewley Sweepers Ltd has added the first Renault Truck to its 25-strong operated hire services fleet. The Renault Trucks D16 4x2 R Sweeper, with dedicated Johnson Sweeper Pack, was chosen for its automatic gearbox, together with the overall service and competitive deal on offer from dealer, JDS Truck and Van.
Mark Clewley, Director, comments on the latest addition: “We’ve always run machines from a competitor manufacturer but, as we are continuously looking for ways to improve our service offering, we decided to look at the Renault Truck. One of the big draws to the D Sweeper was the option to specify the Allison Automatic Gearbox through a factory adaption. It just makes life easier and allows the driver to focus on the job in hand without worrying about the clutch.”
The Renault Trucks D with sweeper pack is factory designed, built and warranted for total peace of mind and is being used for spot hire work including road sweeping, construction site cleaning, building sites, road resurfacing and preparation and highway maintenance across the North West of England and North Wales.
The service offering from JDS Truck and Van and its network of three branches in the North West was an important factor in opting for the D16 as Mark Clewley explains: “Key to keeping our sweepers out on the road working and downtime to a minimum is a reliable back up service. With our recent expansion and a new depot opening in Liverpool, we felt partnering with JDS, and its knowledgeable and helpful teams, was the best option for our operation. We had heard their service is second to none and, whilst it’s early days, we have been impressed so far.”
With a heavy duty rear axle, the D16 sweeper benefits from a 700kg additional payload and fuel tank that carries an extra 40 litres over alternative chassis, whilst a short wheelbase gives improved manoeuvrability. Clewley also specified its D16 with optional extras including ABS, ASR, drag torque control, emergency brake assist, hill start assist, ESC trajectory control and anti-rollover system, air conditioning, day cab with tinted rear cab windows, air-suspended comfort driver’s seat with heated cushion and seat depth adjustment.
The Renault Trucks D has impressed both Mark and the driver, too. He notes: “The driver has previously worked on the competitor vehicles but has had no issues swapping to the Renault Truck. It’s easy to drive and does everything we need for our particular operation.”
