VOLVO GROUP UK VOLUNTEERS SMASH TARGET AND DELIVER 11,950 PPE APRONS TO WARWICKSHIRE FRONT-LINE HEALTH CARE WORKERS

A team of fifteen employees of Volvo Group UK have delivered 11,950 single use, disposable plastic aprons to those working on the front-line in Warwickshire-based hospices, care homes, charities, schools and other vulnerable-group organisations, smashing their original target of 10,000.

Working out of Volvo Group UK’s Warwick headquarters, the volunteers, who are all currently on furlough, returned under strict ‘COVID-secure’ guidelines to manufacture around 1,000 per day of the single use, disposable plastic aprons that play an essential role in protecting care workers and their patients.

Executive Assistant at Renault Trucks UK & Ireland, Vickie Thomas, who headed up the team of volunteers, says: “After reporting our first achievement of 3,500 aprons back in June, we are delighted to have smashed our next target of 10,000, finishing on 11,950!  My thanks go to the team of Volvo Group UK volunteers who quickly pitched in and gave up their time freely to help with such a valuable enterprise. All of us have a close link to one of the organisations which made the endeavour even more poignant.”

Liz Heritage, Craighaven Care Home Manager says: “We are truly grateful to the volunteers at Volvo Group UK for making and donating the disposable aprons during the COVID-19 pandemic.  As our dedicated teams continue to work around the clock providing excellent care to all of our vulnerable residents, the aprons are invaluable in helping to minimise the risk of spreading the virus.”
